First 35 minutes

Deep Dive into Evaluation Types

We will unpack the most common types of immigration cases where psychological evaluations play a critical role, ranging from traditional trauma cases to complex forensic risk assessments. You will learn the specific legal thresholds and clinical focus areas for:

Extreme Hardship Waivers (I-601 and I-601A)

Asylum Claims, VAWA Petitions, and U/T Visas

Adam Walsh Act (AWA) Evaluations: A highly specialized assessment required when a U.S. citizen petitioner with a past conviction involving a minor seeks to sponsor a family member. We will explore the incredibly high legal burden ("no risk" to the beneficiary) and how this forensic role differs from standard trauma evals.

35 minutes

The Art of Forensic Report Writing

Writing a clinical report for immigration court is vastly different from writing typical therapy progress notes. We will discuss how to structure your reports so they withstand intense legal scrutiny. Key focus areas include:

Translating clinical trauma into legal "hardship" language.

Incorporating sex-offender risk assessment instruments, treatment history, and behavioral modification records for Adam Walsh cases.

Utilizing diagnostic tools and criteria effectively while maintaining strict clinical objectivity.

30 minutes

Interactive Mock Sessions

We will move from theory to practice with live mock interview segments. This interactive portion will demonstrate how to balance clinical empathy with forensic objectivity. You will observe and practice:

Navigating sensitive trauma histories efficiently within a limited timeframe.

Managing the unique dynamics of an Adam Walsh interview, including exploring sensitive histories while assessing impulse control and emotional adjustment.

Formulating diagnostic and risk hypotheses on the fly.

20 minutes

Professional Networking & Practice Building

We will conclude with a dedicated segment on how to build your network and connect with immigration attorneys. We will cover best practices for ethical collaboration, fee structures, cross-referrals, and how to position yourself as a trusted expert witness in your local legal community—particularly for niche, high-stakes cases like Adam Walsh petitions.

How to Prepare

To get the absolute most out of these two hours, we recommend the following:

Bring Your Questions: Think about any specific cases you’ve encountered, ethical dilemmas you anticipate (especially regarding risk assessments vs. trauma advocacy), or questions you have about the legal system.
Review Core Diagnostics: Briefly brushing up on DSM-5-TR criteria for PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder will help you jump right into the mock session analysis.
Have Business Cards Ready: Because the final 20 minutes focus heavily on networking, be ready to share your professional details and practice specialties with your peers.
